Why I Can't Get a Good Night Sleep....

This was Sophie this morning from around 4:30 to 6:00. I had to wake her up to get her going to get ready for daycare.

Sophie has been sleeping in our room since we got home from China last year. She transitioned from her crib to a toddler bed...still in our room, right next to our bed....my side of the bed. This has been a good thing for Sophie and for us, but it is time for our girl to be in her own space, in her own room. (For the record Ben and Hannah slept in our room on and off until they were three years old. Bad I know) Sophie typically sleeps all night, but like any little kid she wakes up during the night, she is just not fully awake. Which of course wakes me up. Kids in my room was not such a bad thing when I was a SAHM, but as a working mom the lack of a good nights rest is kicking my butt!

I am hoping to move her into her own room during Christmas break so if it doesn't go well I can at least take a nap during the day:) Any suggestions are welcome to help her with the transition in to her big girl bed in her own room.

Sweet picture.

I suggest doing what I did with Tahlia. Put a mattress on the floor in Sophie's room and sleep there for a while, until she is comfortable in her new room and then slowly move away until you are out of her room. It might take a while, but it WILL work.

She is so cute. : ) We went through a phase with our daughter Addison. She needed her Daddy to lay down with her in the middle of the night. We just had to get tough and talk to her about. Daddy was getting very tired and we had to get Addison to stay in her bed by herself. It's hard I feel for you {{{hug}}}

how can you resist that face? She's so gosh darn cute!
Sorry - I have no suggestions. Never had my kids in my room - I am a WITCH about my sleep.
Maybe if you take Sophie to the store and let her pick out her own 'big girl' bedding and a new special pillow.
hell.....I don't know....

Ugh, I so know the feeling. My little guy HATES his crib, he wants to sleep right in between Andy and I - but he is such a fitful sleeper, always kicking and thrashing around, so I can't get a good night's sleep!!! It does start to catch up with you QUICK!!! We're working on getting him transitioned to a "big boy bed" which we hope will convince him to start sleeping by himself!

Good luck!

Just found your blog today and can I just say, MAN I LOVE YOUR BLOG! You're smart, funny and not a Palin supporter! Perfect! ;0)

I'm not an internationally adoptive mother (yet!) but I work in the field (sort of) of adoption and anyway, I find your blog to be really sweet, funny and just generally awesome. Thanks!

OMG Mar - that picture is priceless. Sorry no words of wisdom. Hannah went to her crib right away - even tho she woke up screaming often. We still have some episodes...but she loves her bed.

MARYELLEN,
I SO ENVY SLEEP THESE DAYS. OUR LITTLE ONE STILL SLEEPS IN MY BED AND IS SO FEARFUL OF THE CRIB.
WE MADE IT INTO A TODDLER BED AND SHE'LL PLAY IN IT FOR NOW. I TOLD HER IT'S "ELMO'S BED" BUT SHE KNOWS BETTER! EVERYONE TELL US TO NOT PUSH THE SLEEP TRAINING, AND THEY ARE THE EXPERTS ON SLEEP, SO I'M HOPING THEY CAN GIVE ME SOME BETTER ADVICE NEXT MONTH.
SEEING YOUR LITTLE ONE SLEEPING EVEN CLOSE TO HER BED, IS SOOOOOO CUTE! WHAT A DOLLIE1

Sort of out there...but what about 'reverse monitors' where she can hear Mommy moving around, humming, etc...for the first few weeks....

Just an idea--
