We have been home with Sophie since September 2007. We have yet to complete the paperwork that would provide her with an "american" birth certificate. I am conflicted about the birth certificate stuff...if I am not mistaken, I think it lists us as her parents. Yes, I know we are her parents, but a BC typically lists your birth parents. She still can't president of the USA even with her American birth certificate.
Sooooo
What are the benefits of completing the paper to get Sophie a NC birth certificate?

So when she has to present a BC for school, or any other time, she will not have to forever present her Chinese BC which is basically an abandonment certificate.
She will need a copy of her BC if she gets married or wants to adopt or many other things as an adult. What do you think she would prefer to have a copy of to present?
When you start getting her involved in clubs and sports teams, she will need a convenient proof of age. We made an executive decision to get a state-issued birth certificate, while keeping the original safe for her, because I would rather have random people and acquaintances look at that one than at the one that states her birthparents are "unknown."
I still need to do this...
Let me know if you need help. I did both of mine by myself. although it is time consuming, it is very easy and cheap ...less than $100.
For when she goes to start driving. It will be A LOT easier now rather than later to do it.
